I have been busy following my research plan for the Research Like a Pro with DNA study group this week. Research planning really makes a project flow smoothly. As I worked, I had my research log open on one screen, and my plan open on the other. Because I had included clickable links in my research plan, I could go from one step to the next, opening each link in a new tab, performing the necessary searches, then recording my findings and writing source citations as I went. The Research Like a Pro process really has made me a much better researcher, and it was so exciting to be able to use DNA as additional evidence in this case. I’m looking forward to writing up my research during next week’s assignment.
I also spent some time writing a few articles for Souls to Bless, my blog for Temple and Family History Consultants. I listened to and wrote a review of Sunny Morton’s session at RootsTech London, “Comparing the Genealogy Giants: Ancestry, FamilySearch, Findmypast and MyHeritage.” Sunny had some great information about each of the major genealogy websites, including records availability, subscription costs, and DNA offerings. It was a really informative session. Read my review here.
I also posted the 4th installment of my series “How a Consultant Can “Know Everything.” In this article, I wrote about the FamilySearch Research Wiki. If you want to know more about the Wiki and what it has to offer, you can read the article here.
In my third post, I shared some great quotes about temple and family history that I heard when watching General Conference at the beginning of October. Here’s one of my favorites from President Nelson:
“Your power will increase as you serve others. Your prayers, fasting, time in the scriptures, service in the temple, and family history work will open the heavens to you.”
Russell M. Nelson, Spiritual Treasures

Finally, I am excited to be sharing free printables to go along with my lesson, “5 Ways to Do Family History in 5 Minutes.” This is a lesson I designed for adults and/or youth that can be presented during Sunday lessons or at weeknight activities. It has been eye-opening for people to see the small and simple ways they can make temple and family history work a part of their everyday lives. I have had several people reach out to me over the last few weeks to ask for the graphic that goes along with my lesson so they can print it out as a handout. I am excited to share the printables I created this week in four different colors:
The printables will be available as a free gift to those who subscribe to my blog. However, for the next week, current followers can access them by clicking the button below:
