This week I worked on a timeline analysis for the subject of my DNA research objective for the Research Like a Pro With DNA Study Group I am currently participating in. I also continued charting DNA matches using Lucidchart. It’s been exciting to see potential common ancestors start to appear as I have charted these matches!
I also watched a video from RootsTech 2019, “A DNA Match with No Tree? No Problem!” with Diahan Southard and Lisa Louise Cooke. In the video, Lisa shares her method of discovering the identity of DNA matches and building their family trees. After listening, I was able to determine the identity of a close cousin match for my DNA project. This was an exciting moment in the week! I love the RootsTech video archive!
Later in the week, I wrote two articles for my blog for Temple and Family History Consultants, Souls to Bless. The first was about the new FamilySearch Experiences tool. It allows consultants to see when ward members have temple opportunities, record hints, and discovery experiences waiting for them on FamilySearch and contact the ward member to offer assistance with these experiences. The second article is Part 3 in my series, “How a Consultant Can Know Everything,” in which I highlight The Family History Guide.
My parents have been visiting from Wyoming this weekend, and they helped me determine my relationships to some of my own close DNA matches that I was unsure of. It was great to talk to them and hear stories of some of their cousins. We also enjoyed Sunday dinner with a few DNA matches–our family members that live close enough to join us. There’s no better way to spend a Sunday evening than with loved ones, good food, conversation, and laughter!
I’m looking forward to a great week of learning new things about DNA research and making progress with my project in my study group.
