RootsTech Connect Starts Tonight!

It’s here! RootsTech Connect officially begins at 9 pm Mountain  Standard Time (GMT-7) tonight. I’m so excited to be involved in this historic event as a presenter, ambassador, and participant. Be sure to add my presentation “3 Easy Ways to Document Your Ancestor’s Life at FamilySearch” to your playlist.

Speaking of playlists, you may be wondering how all this is going to work. Let me give you the rundown.

The first thing you will see when you go to Rootstech.org will be the main stage. This is will be “live” 24/7 throughout the conference and will feature celebrity keynote speakers and other amazing content for you to watch. Scrolling down will allow you to access a whole bunch of additional content. All of this will be searchable and watch-able without even logging in. You can search for classes by topic or speaker, or use the “Guide Me” feature if you don’t know what you want to watch. If you have favorite family history speakers, view the list of speakers and select their profile to view the sessions they will be presenting.

Logging in with your FamilySearch credentials will give you access to extra features like MyPlaylist, which will allow you to save all the sessions you want to watch, and Chat, which allows you to interact with other conference attendees.  Here’s my strategy for the conference:

I have looked at the Main Stage Schedule and decided what I will be watching there and when I will be watching.  The keynote speakers will be repeated multiple times throughout the event to give time for other sessions and visits to the expo hall, etc.  The RootsTech site is now live so you can start adding sessions to your playlist. I’m adding those that I’m interested in watching to MyPlaylist.  Then, whenever I’m not viewing the Main Stage content, visiting the expo hall, or chatting with other participants, I will watch sessions from MyPlaylist.

Remember, the sessions will be available for a year (or more) after the conference ends.  Be sure to allow time for those events that are taking place only during the conference like interacting with vendors in the vendor hall and chatting with your Relatives at RootsTech.  I’ll be checking in on the Chat Room for my session periodically throughout the conference to say hello and answer questions.  I’ll also spend some time there live at 10 am and 4 pm Mountain Standard Time (GMT-7) each day of the conference..

Above all, soak it all in and enjoy being a part of the largest family history conference the world has ever seen.
