First Generation: Alfred W. Beck

I am beginning to work on my four generation project for accreditation. Now that I have completed the Research Like a Pro study group I feel ready to tackle this huge endeavor. I will be tracing the paternal line of Alfred W. Beck, who was born in Hunker, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, and citing evidence to connect each generation: Alfred W. Beck > William S. Beck > Hannah Fisher > Jacob Fisher.

This family is of German descent and lived in Pennsylvania for generations. Alfred W. Beck is my husband’s great-grandfather. He married Lois Anne Marie Fjeldsted in Sanpete County, Utah in 1903.

Alfred and Lois ended up settling in the tiny town of Otto, Wyoming, where Alfred was a postmaster and keeper of the town store, the “Otto Golden Rule.” Here’s a fun fact: Otto is my Dad’s hometown. My grandparents actually purchased the store from “Old Man Beck” in 1941. I love this connection!

The Otto Golden Rule

So how did a young man with deep roots in Pennsylvania end up marrying a girl from Gunnison Utah and settling in Otto, Wyoming? Stay tuned for more details!
