Has anyone ever been confused by Immigration vs. Emigration? I recently realized that I was, and being able to use these words correctly is important as a genealogist. Here’s a little help:
Immigration
Merriam Webster Dictionary
: an act or instance ofimmigrating : specifically, travel into a country for the purpose of permanent residence there
Emigration
: an act or instance of emigrating : departure from a place of abode, natural home, or country for life or residence elsewhere
Think: immigration = incoming; emigration = exiting.
I should be able to use these words correctly from now on.
