Genealogy Terminology: Immigration and Emigration

Has anyone ever been confused by Immigration vs. Emigration? I recently realized that I was, and being able to use these words correctly is important as a genealogist. Here’s a little help:

Immigration
an act or instance of immigrating : specifically, travel into a country for the purpose of permanent residence there
Emigration
an act or instance of emigrating departure from a place of abode, natural home, or country for life or residence elsewhere

Merriam Webster Dictionary

Think: immigration = incoming; emigration = exiting.

I should be able to use these words correctly from now on.
