RootsTech Connect Presentations by Members of My FAN Club

In the genealogy realm, we often talk about the FAN club, an acronym coined by Elizabeth Shown Mills that stands for Friends, Associates, and Neighbors. Some members of my own personal FAN club are the people I associate with in the genealogy world, and some of them created amazing presentations for RootsTech Connect. Today I’m giving a shout-out to these FANs and inviting you to watch their presentations. You will learn so much!

First are my friends and mentors at Family Locket: Diana Elder, Nicole Dyer, and Robin Wirthlin. I am proud to be a part of the team of researchers at Family Locket. Everything these three do is amazing, and their presentations are no exception.

  • Diana Elder is an accredited genealogist in the Gulf South Region of the United States and a commissioner for ICAPGen. She has presentations on topics like research methodology, DNA, and the accreditation process. View her presentations here.
  • Nicole Dyer is a professional genealogist specializing in southern states research. She is the creator of Family Locket and hosts the Research Like a Pro Podcast with Diana Elder. They have co-authored the book Research Like a Pro: A Genealogist’s Guide and have teamed up with genetic genealogist Robin Wirthlin to write the book Research Like a Pro with DNA. Nicole’s presentations include DNA topics, research in the southern states, using Google My Map, and using Airtable for a DNA research log. View her presentations here.
  • Robin Wirthlin is Family Locket’s genetic genealogist and holds a degree in molecular biology. She also has presentations on several DNA topics and one titled “How Finding Ancestors can Bring Peace and Understanding.” View her presentations here.

Next in my FAN club is another mentor, Lisa Stokes. She is an accredited genealogist in the Mid-South region and is the study group leader for the ICAPGen study groups. I have learned a lot from Lisa, and you can too as you view her presentations on organizing and writing genealogical findings and preparing for accreditation here.

Jenny Hansen is a friend and neighbor, and an accredited genealogist in Danish research. She is a fantastic teacher and shares her knowledge about Scandinavian research and the accreditation process in several presentations. She also has a great series titled “Moving Beyond Record Hints: First Steps in Original Research.” View Jenny’s presentations here.

Amberly Beck was one of my fellow study group participants in the ICAPGen Level 2&3 study groups and we are currently in the same ProGen study group. Amberly is a French research specialist and I have had the opportunity to work with her on a project or two. She’s amazing! Learn more about French research by watching Amberly’s presentations here.

Last in my RootsTech FAN club are two relatives that I met through RootsTech a couple of years ago:

I think you will find each of these members of my FAN club to be knowledgeable in their fields of expertise as well as engaging presenters. I am working my way through their presentations and hope you will find them as valuable as I have.

If you missed my presentation “3 Easy Ways to Document Your Ancestor’s Life at FamilySearch,” you can watch it here.
