This week I have been having fun working on my project for the Research Like a Pro With DNA study group I am participating in. I have been learning so much! I wrote two articles to share what I’ve been doing. First, in Discovering Ancestor Migration Routes, I discussed the United States Migration page at FamilySearch and the helpful resources you will find that can be included in a locality guide. I also wrote about Exploring DNA Tools and three different ways you can analyze your DNA test results. I am now working on a research plan for my project. I will be using both traditional and DNA methods and resources in my plan.
Over the last few weeks, I have found myself looking for historic newspaper articles, and I have discovered some fun newspaper collections I would love to share with you. The first is NYS Historic Newspapers. This site provides “free online access to a wide range of newspapers chosen to reflect New York’s unique history.” You can use the search tab to search the entire collection or click on a county to search or browse titles within that county.
The second resource is for Utah newspapers. The collection title is Utah Digital Newspapers. You can search all Utah newspapers from the home page, or choose to do an advanced search where you can search a specific paper and add a date range. I love finding new resources to use in my research!
